Student Accessibility and Accommodations
Wayne State University Law School is committed to ensuring equal access to education for law students with diverse abilities. The Office of Student Affairs works in partnership with the Wayne State University Student Disability Services (SDS) to operate a collaborative system to manage requests for reasonable accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are defined as adjustments that are compatible with the essential elements of the law school’s legal education program, can be provided without excessive financial or administrative burden, and maintain academic integrity. Law students with documented temporary or permanent disabilities should contact the SDS Office to establish eligibility for reasonable accommodations.

SDS Registration Process
To initiate a request for accommodations based on the impact of a disability, you must:
- Complete the SDS New Student Registration Request Form. Once the Request Form is received, a meeting will be scheduled with an SDS Liaison to assess your needs.
- Collect the necessary information and documentation in preparation for your meeting with the SDS Liaison.
- Meet with SDS Liaison to discuss the accommodation request.
- Contact the Office of Student Affairs. If granted accommodations, you are required to meet with a staff member from the Student Affairs office to discuss implementation of the accommodation. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR LAW PROFESSOR OR PROVIDE YOUR SDS LETTER OF ELIGIBILITY TO YOUR LAW PROFESSORS.
Timeline for Accommodations
There are no deadlines for requesting accommodations. SDS will accept and review accommodation requests and supporting documentation at any time during the academic year. Students should submit requests at least four weeks in advance to give the SDS Liaison and the Student Affairs staff enough time to complete the review process and implement the approved accommodation. While both SDS and the Student Affairs Office will review every request for accommodation it receives, no guarantee can be made that requests made outside the suggested timeline will be completed and accommodations administered in time for the beginning of the course or an upcoming exam. Students should plan ahead and register with SDS as early as possible.
