Reciprocity at Wayne Law

Internal student/alumni reciprocity access

If you plan to conduct a job search in a state other than Michigan, you might consider requesting permission to use the career services office at a university in that state combined with our services. Many law schools provide reasonable access to their career resources for students and graduates from other law schools that agree to provide similar services. This will give you access to local job postings and information about practitioners in the area.

To review specific policies, go to the NALP Directory of Reciprocity Policies. If Reciprocity access is granted, students/graduates should be sure to read and honor the reciprocity policy of the host school. Many law schools have black-out dates (usually in the fall) during which time reciprocity requests won't be granted.

Contact lawcareers@wayne.edu to schedule an appointment and discuss gaining reciprocity. Current Wayne Law students can also fill out our form here to submit a formal request to the office ranking their preferred schools.

External student/alumni reciprocity access

Please review the external reciprocity policy below and complete the steps outlined to request access. This policy is only for use by individuals outside of the Wayne State University Law School community.

Requests for services can be made by the career office of the student's law school. Requests for reciprocal access can be emailed to lawcareers@wayne.edu and must include all information required by our policy.

External reciprocity policy:

The Wayne State University Law School Office of Career Success (OCS) will provide reasonable use of its resources to law students and graduates of NALP member law schools based outside of Michigan on the following terms:

  1. The resources of the OCS, subject to the limitations stated below, are available only to students and graduates of those ABA-accredited, NALP member law schools based outside of Michigan that offer reciprocal services to students and graduates of Wayne State University Law School.
  2. A career services representative from the applicant's law school must submit a written request for reciprocity via email to lawcareers@wayne.edu or via letter to Wayne State University Law School Office of Career Success, 471 W. Palmer Street, Suite 1265, Detroit, MI 48202, in advance of a visit by the student or graduate.
  3. The request must contain the applicant's full name, email address, and year of study or date of graduation. The OCS will submit a written response to the applicant and their law school advising whether reciprocity has been granted.
  4. The OCS reserves the right to refuse or limit reciprocal access to OCS resources during fall and spring on-campus recruiting seasons, generally from June 15st through Nov. 1. Further, the Office of Career Success reserves the right to deny or revoke reciprocity privileges to any individual who misuses the privileges or fails to comply with the policies of the OCS.
  5. Individuals granted reciprocity may access OCS resources for three (3) months from the date that reciprocity is granted. The OCS may grant one renewal request per academic year.
  6. OCS resources available on a reciprocal basis may include access to advising appointments, OCS informational handouts, access to online employment listings, and other password-protected online resources.
  7. Reciprocal privileges do not include participation in on-campus interviews, applications to blind postings, direct mail programs, or career fairs. Likewise, privileges do not include borrowing printed materials maintained in our lending library. Printed materials housed in our lending library may be viewed on site.
  8. The OCS reserves the right to modify this Reciprocity Policy at any time without prior notice.
