On-campus interviews
Students
Wayne Law conducts two on-campus interview (OCI) programs each year. The Summer/Fall OCI season targets 2L and 3L students seeking positions that will commence during the following summer or fall. Participating employers tend to include large, multi-disciplinary law firms, boutique law firms, and some public sector employers. Fall OCI commences with pre-season activities such as receptions and mock interviews with employer representatives in July. The interviews usually take place from the last week of July through October.
Winter/Spring OCI occurs during the winter term. It targets 1L, 2L and 3L students for both immediate hire positions and positions that will commence during the summer or fall. Participating employers tend to include medium and small law firms, in-house legal departments, public sector employers, and public interest employers. Winter/Spring OCI traditionally begins in late February or early March with interviews occurring through late March.
Students may participate in OCI in two principal ways depending upon the employers' preferences. First, most employers will require students who seek to interview to apply by submitting requested application materials via 12twenty. Employers then view the applications and select students with whom they desire to conduct 15-to-30-minute screening interviews. The Office of Career Success (OCS) will thereafter facilitate the scheduling of the screening interviews of the students selected by the employer. After the screening interviews, the employers will select those students who will advance in their recruiting processes.
In the second scenario, instead of conducting on-campus screening interviews, the employers conduct a "resume collect" in which students still apply for an interview by submitting the requisite documents by uploading them to 12Twenty or sending them directly to the employers. The key difference, however, is that employers directly facilitate interviews with students they select to participate in their recruiting processes.
You may identify the employers participating in the OCI programs, as well as their hiring criteria and documents required to apply, by clicking the OCI and Job Listings tab in your 12twenty account. Prior to each OCI season, the OCS will host an information session to prepare students to participate.
To help prepare for participation in either program, students are highly encouraged to meet with their advisor by emailing lawcareers@wayne.edu. Students are also encouraged to view our resources on Canvas.
Employers
Each term, employers have the opportunity to interview current students and recent graduates for summer associate, law clerk, and entry-level attorney positions through our On-Campus Interview Program. We host two programs, with our more robust Fall program occurring in late July, and our Winter program occurring in and around March.
Our office will publicize the opportunity, collect applications, and provide all materials to you in a single bundle. After reviewing application materials and selecting which candidates you would like to interview, we will create your interview schedule and provide on-campus accommodations on interview day.
Additionally, our On-Campus Interview Programs offer the option of taking part in a “resume collect.” The process is much the same as a traditional on-campus interview, with our office gathering application materials and forwarding them to employers. Employers are then welcome to reach out to candidates directly to facilitate the interviews.
Employers can register for On-Campus Interviews below. For any questions or concerns, please contact lawcareers@wayne.edu for more information.
