  • Biography

    Emma Lawton is an Assistant Defender at the State Appellate Defender Office (SADO), where she represents indigent defendants in all aspects of felony appeals. Prior to her role at SADO, she worked as a trial public defender with the Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender and as a trial attorney for the Wisconsin State Public Defender Agency.

    Before entering public defense, Emma served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Justice Peter J. Maassen of the Alaska Supreme Court and as a staff law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

    A Michigan native, Emma earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2015.
