appointed to the rank of distinguished service professor. Volz is a professor of business law and ethics in the Mike Ilitch School of Business. He’s been a member of the WSU faculty since 1978. Joan E. Young (1974)
received the Distinguished Career Achievement Award from the Oakland County Bar Association at its annual meeting in June 2019. Judge Young served the citizens of Oakland County as both a probate and circuit judge during her twenty-eight years on the bench.

was named a fellow of the Pepper Center, a group of senior attorneys at Pepper Hamilton LLP dedicated to advancing pro bono causes, including immigration, education and other areas. Michael Steinberg (1989)
was honored by the Detroit Branch of the NAACP and the Arab American Civil Rights League with its 2019 Justice Award. Steinberg, who has served as the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan for 22 years, is joining the faculty of the University of Michigan Law School in the fall. He will teach a civil rights litigation course and start a legal clinic called the Civil Rights Litigation Initiative.
