2011 Honors Convocation celebrates law student achievement, alumni support
December 12, 2011
PHOTO RELEASE (Dec. 12, 2011) — More than 80 scholarships, fellowships, awards and prizes were given out to accomplished students at this year’s Wayne State University Law School Honors Convocation, held on Nov. 17. The ceremony recognizes exceptional students and gives some of them a chance to meet their scholarship donors in person.
Many of the awards are funded by former and current faculty members, alumni and law firms. Student recipients are chosen based on academic success, involvement in Law School and community activities, financial need or interest in a specific career.
This year, Wayne Law was fortunate to be able to give out four new scholarships: the Judge Claudia House Morcom Annual Scholarship, the Margaret Sind Raben Scholarship, the James K. Robinson Endowed Scholarship, and the Wayne Law Alumni Association Annual Scholarship. In addition, the Law School was able to fund four International Public Interest Law Fellowships for the first time.
“On behalf of the Law School, its faculty and staff, I would like to extend special thanks to our generous donors and benefactors,” said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. “It is through their efforts that our students are offered this annual recognition and support, allowing them to focus more on their studies and less on finances while students at Wayne Law.”
