Wayne State University Law School's Moot Court Wraps Up Winter 2024 In-House Competition

DETROIT, MI - Wayne State University Law School recently concluded its Winter 2024 In-House Moot Court Competition on March 3, 2024. Out of the 20 junior members who participated in this intensive two-day event, Frank Doud, a 2L student, emerged as the Winter 2024 In-House champion.

The competition featured preliminary rounds where oral advocates were evaluated by a panel of judges. These judges, comprised of Wayne alumni and practicing attorneys who generously volunteered their time, assessed participants based on the substantive content of their arguments, knowledge of the case record, extemporaneous abilities, and courtroom demeanor. The top eight performers from the preliminary rounds advanced to the competition's upper rounds.

Alexis Zerbst, Moot Court Chancellor, expressed immense pride in all the junior members, highlighting their dedication and hard work throughout the semester in preparation for the competition. Zerbst also extended gratitude to the 30-plus practicing lawyers, law professors, and judges who volunteered their time to make the event a success, emphasizing the crucial role of community support in the program's achievements.

Notable judges for the competition's final round included Wayne Law Professor Christopher Lund, Honigman practicing attorney and Wayne Law Professor I.W. Winsten, and Jones Day Associate Attorney Parker Feldman.

The Moot Court program annually provides junior members with the opportunity to delve into legal issues within unsettled areas of the law, allowing them to become proficient in arguing both sides of the issues. With the success of the Winter In-House competition, anticipation is high for the upcoming national competitions and the selection of the new executive board for the 2024-2025 school year.
