Wayne Law students awarded Gottfried memorial scholarship
DETROIT, MI —May 2025 J.D. candidates from Wayne State University Law School David Boutrous and Juliana De Pasquo were awarded the 29th annual Bernard Gottfried Memorial Labor Law Symposium Scholarship in September.
This scholarship is presented to Wayne Law students who demonstrate interest in the field of labor law or employment law.
While at Wayne Law, Boutrous served as an assistant editor for the Wayne Law Review (2023-2024), where his article was selected for publication. He is currently a full-time litigation paralegal at Slater Seibert PLLC in Troy, Michigan, and gained additional experience as a 2024 Summer Associate at Bodman PLC. He has accepted an offer to join Bodman PLC as an associate after graduation. Boutrous earned his B.A. in political science, summa cum laude, at the University of Notre Dame and his M.A. in international relations at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
De Pasquo enrolled in the part-time, evening program at Wayne State University Law School in 2021 and will also graduate in May 2025. Over the past three years, Julianna worked full-time at Rocket Mortgage and currently works as a law clerk at Garan Lucow Miller P.C., focusing on personal injury defense. De Pasquo earned a B.A. in honors psychology from the University of Guelph in 2021.
The Bernard Gottfried Memorial Labor Law Scholarship and its associated symposium commemorate Bernard Gottfried’s (1925-92) contributions to labor relations. As the director of Region 7 of the National Labor Relations Board from 1973 until his death, Gottfried also taught as an adjunct professor at Wayne Law for many years, leaving a lasting impact on the field.
