Wayne Law remembers Ty Fahner, esteemed alumnus
The Wayne Law community mourns the passing of Tyrone C. Fahner, an esteemed alumnus and 2019 Wall of Fame inductee, whose remarkable career left an indelible mark on the legal profession. A Detroit native, Fahner was a proud graduate of Wayne State University Law School, where he laid the foundation for a career characterized by public service, leadership, and unwavering integrity.
After law school, Fahner quickly ascended to prominence, serving as a federal prosecutor and later as the Attorney General of Illinois. His fearless pursuit of justice, particularly during the Tylenol crisis of 1982, showcased his dedication to the safety and well-being of the public. His leadership at the prestigious law firm Mayer Brown further demonstrated his ability to navigate complex legal landscapes and lead with vision and integrity.
Wayne Law Dean Richard A. Bierschbach remarked, “Ty Fahner’s contributions to the legal profession and public service were extraordinary. His legacy as a prosecutor, attorney general, and law firm leader has inspired countless attorneys, and his commitment to justice remains a beacon for all of us. We are proud to call him one of our own.”
Ty Fahner's life of service will be remembered, and his example will continue to inspire future generations of Wayne Law students. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
