Jessup International Law Moot Court
Who we are
Wayne Law's Jessup International Law Moot Court Team competes in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Jessup is the largest and most-prestigious moot court competition in the world with nearly 700 law schools competing from more than 90 countries across the globe. Individuals are carefully selected to represent Wayne Law against other law schools in arguing various and often controversial issues of international law.
What we do
Wayne Law's Jessup team comprises five second- and third-year students. The International Law Students Association creates and releases a compromis each fall that outlines the issues and facts behind a hypothetical international legal dispute between two fictional countries. Jessup members research, write and submit a memorial and prepare for the regional competition annually in early spring by participating in various moot arguments in front of faculty and practicing attorneys around the metro Detroit area. At the competition, the Jessup team faces off against other schools in hopes of reaching the international rounds in Washington, D.C.

Moot Court
Who we are
Since 1949, Wayne Law has had a nationally acclaimed student-run Moot Court program that features a rigorous in-house appellate advocacy competition in both the fall and winter semesters. As one of the only co-curriculars to feature intensive training in legal research, writing and oral advocacy, Wayne Law Moot Court is a challenging and rewarding experience to those students who are accepted into the program.
What we do
Junior members (second-year students) partner to research and write appellate briefs involving legal issues in unsettled areas of the law. The students then argue their case against other partners in front of senior members (third-year students) in a formal judicial-style setting. Successful teams reach the Arthur Neef (fall) and Law Day (winter) Competitions, where the best of Moot Court's advocates face-off in front of practicing lawyers, law professors and judges from the Michigan Supreme Court, court of appeals and county circuit courts. The strongest advocates are selected to represent Wayne Law in both regional and national Moot Court competitions.

Mock Trial
Who we are
Mock Trial (formerly the Student Trial Advocacy Program) was founded in 1985 to train law students in trial courtroom advocacy.
What we do
Mock Trial, supported by a formal course, Mock Trial Workshop, sponsors an intramural trial competition in both the fall and winter semesters. Pairs of students participate in a minimum of two trials per semester at the Frank Murphy Courthouse in Detroit. The program is open to upper-class students who have passed a tryout.

Wayne State Taft Transactional Law Competition
Since 2014, Wayne Law has offered a one-credit transactional law competition class to help students develop in drafting, negotiation, and counseling skills in the transactional context.

Wayne Law Review
Who we are
The Wayne Law Review is one of three scholarly journals edited and produced by Wayne Law students. It contains articles, book reviews, transcripts, notes and comments by prominent academics, practitioners and students on timely legal topics. Each year, one of the issues highlights a topic of interest discussed at the review’s annual symposium.

The Journal of Law in Society
The Journal of Law in Society (JLS) is a student-managed publication of Wayne State University Law School that provides scholarly discourse on the intersection of law and society. Each year, the JLS identifies a range of issues affecting Detroit and other parts of the world, and then publishes articles that address those issues within their social context.

The Journal of Business Law is a scholarly peer-reviewed journal operated and edited by students at Wayne State University Law School. The Journal of Business Law is published annually and provides a forum for student interests and scholarship in the field of business law.
