Transgender Rights Panel to take place at Wayne Law Jan. 18

DETROIT "" Two speakers will address the current state of transgender rights in the United States during a panel discussion at Wayne State University Law School on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Speaking at the event will be Jay Kaplan, Wayne Law class of 1985, LGBT Legal Project staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and Lilianna Angel Reyes, program services director for Affirmations.

The event will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St. Lunch will be provided. Parking is available for $7.50 (credit and debit cards only) in Parking Structure No. 1 across West Palmer Street from the law school. The event is free, but registration is requested. The purpose of this panel is to shed light on the struggles transgender individuals face on a daily basis. It will focus on individual stories, progress our country has made with LGBT rights and current setbacks and roadblocks. The panel discussion is sponsored by Wayne Outlaws, the Wayne Law chapter of If/When/How and Wayne Law's American Civil Liberties Union, Student Chapter.
