The conference will present diverse views on how Congress and the new administration can tackle issues related to multinational corporate offshore profits.

The event will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at The Pew Charitable Trusts, 901 E St. N.W. Admission is free, including a continental breakfast.

Retired U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Tom A. Coburn, M.D., will co-chair the conference. Levin is chair of the Levin Center at Wayne Law and former chairman of the U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI). Coburn is a former ranking member of the PSI and a member of the Levin Center's Advisory Board. During their time on the subcommittee, Levin and Coburn conducted a number of bipartisan investigations into corporate tax matters.

"I'm looking forward to a timely, bipartisan discussion about how to reform our tax code," said Levin. "We will be talking about how to remove incentives in our tax law for U.S. companies to move operations overseas, and how to close the tax loopholes which have allowed so many of our most profitable companies to shift the economic rights to their intellectual property to tax havens, costing our treasury hundreds of billions of dollars."

Paul W. Oosterhuis has joined the list of speakers for the conference. Oosterhuis is of counsel at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in Washington, D.C., where he is an international tax attorney representing clients on a wide range of international and U.S. tax matters.

Other speakers include:

• Robert B. Stack, former deputy assistant secretary (international tax affairs) for the U.S. Department of the Treasury. His last day in office was Jan. 20, 2017.
• Edward Kleinbard, Johnson professor of law and business at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, and a fellow at The Century Foundation. Previously, he was chief of staff for Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation.

Moderating the discussion will be Elise Bean, Washington co-director of the Levin Center at Wayne Law and former staff director and chief counsel for Sen. Levin on the U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
