Ralph Bunche Summer Institute

In partnership with Wayne State's Peace and Conflict Studies graduate program, the Keith Center hosts high school students for a five-day immersion course inspired by the work of diplomat and political scientist Ralph Bunche, a native of Detroit and the first person of color to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

During the week, high school students from metro Detroit and the international border area focus on topics of conflict resolution, diversity, civil rights, negotiation, international affairs and how to individually foster peace within their own communities. The purpose of the institute is to inform students about Bunche's life and peacemaking legacy in the Middle East, Africa and at the United Nations, while also imparting multicultural skills for promoting harmony and strengthening relationships in their own lives, in communities, with each other and the world as a whole.
