The Urban Experience

The Law School’s enviable location in the heart of one of the nation's largest metropolitan areas gives students almost limitless professional, social and cultural opportunities.

Wayne State University is located in the heart of the University/Cultural Center area about four miles from downtown Detroit.  Within walking distance of campus are the Detroit Public Library, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the International Institute, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Detroit Science Center, and the Museum of African-American History. South of the main campus are the Detroit Medical Center and the Wayne State University Medical School, as well as the University's Hilberry Theatre, which houses one of the most distinguished graduate theater repertory companies in the United States.

Many Wayne Law students find internships, summer jobs, and permanent employment in the nearby downtown area, which is home to state and federal courts, governmental agencies, major law firms, public interest organizations, as well as corporate headquarters.

The city gives students a variety of choices for their free time. Visit a museum in the cultural center, catch a show in the Theatre District or sample international cuisine in one of our diverse ethnic enclaves; or you can put it all together at one of our many ethnic festivals and taste fests.

Detroit also shares an international border with Windsor, Ontario, providing students access to numerous Canadian parks, restaurants, museums, and other social and cultural opportunities.
