23rd Annual Ambulance Chase to Raise Funds for Cass Community Social Services
DETROIT (Sept. 3, 2008) - Wayne State University Law School alumni, students and friends are invited to assist a local non-profit in its effort to enhance the local community as the Wayne State University Law School Student Bar Association Board of Governors (SBG) hosts the 23rd annual Ambulance Chase Charity Run/Walk at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008.
Each October, the American Bar Association chooses a worthy cause and encourages each ABA approved law school's students to support the cause in their local area. Profits for this year's event will once again go to Cass Community Social Services (CCSS), a Detroit-based charity dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of those in need by providing for basic necessities, including affordable housing, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging community involvement and improvement.
“[Cass Community Social Services] greatly impacts a large number of people in this community,” said Allison Bentley, SBG President. “Our goal is to assist CCSS financially through the Ambulance Chase so that it may continue to reach out to those most in need of help.”
Bentley added, “Last year’s race was a great success and raised more than $5,000. We hope to raise even more this year.”
Consisting of a 2.2 mile race (shorter for those who prefer to walk) in which participants run/walk behind an ambulance, the event pokes fun at the stereotype of the “ambulance-chasing lawyer.” Typically about 200 people run the race, with another 75-100 attending the event as spectators. All proceeds, including a $20 entrance fee, will benefit Cass Community Social Services.
This year’s Chase will begin in front of the Law School, located at 471 West Palmer Street in Detroit. A barbeque for all participants and spectators will take place at the conclusion of the race. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and there is still time to register. Please contact Allison Bentley at (248) 807-1062 or e-mail email@example.com with any additional questions.
