DETROIT (Sept. 16, 2011) – Peter Sugar, a 1970 Wayne State University Law School alumnus, long-time Wayne Law adjunct faculty member and a member of Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer and Weiss PC, has been recognized with the Donald H. Gordon Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Sugar was presented the award by Dean Robert M. Ackerman at the Wayne Law Reception at the State Bar of Michigan’s annual meeting in Dearborn on Sept. 15. Established in 1981 and presented annually to a Wayne Law professor that exemplifies excellence in the classroom, the award is named for Donald H. Gordon who served as dean of the Law School from 1975-1980 and recently passed away.

Sugar is the first adjunct professor to be honored with the award and has taught classes at Wayne Law for more than 40 years. He currently co-teaches Business Planning with Professor Alan Schenk, a renowned tax law expert.

“This recognition is a great honor and, at the same time, extremely humbling,” Sugar said. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to teach and work with the outstanding faculty at Wayne Law. In particular, I have had the unique opportunity to collaborate during the past eight years with Alan Schenk, a distinguished tax scholar and, coincidentally, my tax professor. More importantly, I am inspired by the creative energy and contribution of our students. This engaged student participation makes our class an exciting, alive business law laboratory that reproduces legal analysis of common and exotic business transactions settings.”

Sugar repeatedly has been recognized by Top Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and Best Lawyers in Michigan and with similar awards by national, state and local agencies for many years.

Much of the above release compliments of Jaffe Raitt Heuer and Weiss PC and Identity PR.
