DETROIT (Oct. 3, 2007) – Wayne State University Law School alumni, students and friends are invited to assist a local non-profit in its effort to enhance the local community as the Wayne State University Law School Student Bar Association Board of Governors hosts the 22nd annual Ambulance Chase Charity Run/Walk at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.

Each October, the American Bar Association chooses a worthy cause and encourages each ABA approved law school's students to support the cause in their local area. Profits from this year’s Ambulance Chase will benefit Cass Community Social Services, a Detroit-based non-profit organization dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of those in need by providing for basic necessities, including affordable housing, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging community involvement and improvement.

“The Student Bar Association Board of Governors is proud to once again host an event dedicated to enriching the lives of area residents,” said Matthew Bates, President of the Wayne State University Law School Student Bar Association Board of Governors. “Last year’s race, which benefited the Wayne County chapter of the Michigan Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (CASA), was a great success and raised more than $5,000. We hope to raise even more this year.”

Consisting of a 2.2 mile race in which participants run/walk behind an ambulance, the event pokes fun at the stereotype of the “ambulance-chasing lawyer.” All proceeds, including a $20 entrance fee, will benefit Cass Community Social Services.  In addition, David Moran, Associate Dean of Wayne State University Law School, will donate $20 to the charity for each student who finishes ahead of him and for each female student who finishes within two minutes of him in the “Dean Moran Challenge.”

This year’s Chase will begin in front of Wayne State University Law School, located at 471 W. Palmer Street. A barbeque for all participants and spectators will take place at the conclusion of the race. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and there is still time to register. Please contact Bryan Kontry, Chair of the Ambulance Chase Committee, at for more information.
