Paula Levitan is a partner in the Technology, Entrepreneurial and Commercial Clients group of Bryan Cave's London office. She is a solicitor in England and Wales as well as being licensed to practice in New York and California. Levitan was a litigator, but she has most recently focused her practice on corporate and commercial work. She has a strong background in acquisitions, intellectual property and brand protection. She has also worked in the franchising and joint venture area and has significant experience in cross-border transactions. Levitan’s clients mainly include retailers and consumer products companies (national and international) as well as a large property development/designer outlet operator with centers throughout the European Union. Her recent work has involved matters in the U.K., Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium.
Levitan previously was a partner in the corporate group of the London office of Arnold and Porter LLP. Prior to joining Arnold and Porter LLP, Levitan served as the vice president and associate general counsel of Gap Inc. where she was responsible for the legal aspects of all of the company’s international expansion efforts. After that, she became general counsel of The Body Shop International, and then general counsel for Manzanita Capital Limited, the private investment fund for the Fisher family, founders of Gap Inc. Both of the latter companies are headquartered in the U.K. Prior to joining Gap Inc., Levitan was a litigator at Pillsbury Madison and Sutro in San Francisco.
Levitan received her bachelor of arts from the University of Michigan in 1973 and her juris doctorate degree from Wayne Law in 1982. Following her graduation from Wayne Law, she served as law clerk to the Hon. Avern Cohn, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.
