Summer Opportunities and Study Abroad

 

International Public Interest Law Fellowship Program

The International Public Interest Law Fellowships allow students to work for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in countries around the world during the summer after their first or second year at Wayne Law. NGOs have agreed to partner with Wayne Law and host our students as summer interns. The partner organizations engage in advocacy on a broad range of issues including human rights, environment, women’s rights, law reform and more. Fellows will receive a $5,000 stipend to cover travel and living expenses for up to two months of work.

Please note that the IPILFs are treated as financial aid. Before applying, you must determine whether you are eligible to receive an IPILF. Please check with the Law School's Financial Aid Office if you are uncertain.

Freeman Fellowship

The Hague, The Netherlands

The Freeman Fellowship provides a $5,000 stipend to one Wayne Law student to study Public or Private International Law at the prestigious Hague Academy of International Law over the summer.

The Hague Academy is the academic wing of the International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court. Law students come from all over the world to hear leading international lawyers give classes on issues of cutting-edge importance. Tata Motors Ltd. in Mumbai, India

This internship funds all travel and living expenses for a position in the legal department of Tata Motors in Mumbai, India. and in its auto manufacturing facilities in various other parts of India.

Tata Motors Ltd. is an Indian multinational corporation with offices and facilities throughout India and the world. The intern will work with members of the legal staff of the company and provide support to business units by performing research in Indian, U.S. and international law regarding corporate responsibility and codes of conduct, intellectual property rights, forum selection clauses, and arbitration. The internship may involve editing or drafting contracts.

The internship is open to (1) all students enrolled at Wayne Law School and (2) those who graduated from Wayne Law in 2011 or 2012. A background in the automotive industry is desirable but not required. Experience living or traveling abroad is also desirable but not required.

International Arbitration Group at WilmerHale in London, England

 

The 2013 WilmerHale internship has been filled. Please apply next year if you are eligible.

This internship funds all travel and living expenses for a position in the International Arbitration Practice Group in the London, England, office of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, one of the premier international law firms with offices around the world. The internship lasts for three months, either during the summer or the fall. More information about the WilmerHale International Arbitration Group can be found here.

The internship involves work across a wide range of responsibilities under the supervision of WilmerHale partners and full-time associates, principally in the field of international arbitration and related areas of transnational litigation.

Study Abroad

The Law School has exchange programs with several foreign universities that provide opportunities for students and faculty to study and work abroad. Other foreign opportunities are provided on an individual basis. Below are some examples of previous summer programs.

Maastricht, The Netherlands
The Law School has established an exchange program with the University of Maastricht that is open to both faculty and students of the respective schools.

Warwick, England
A student exchange program with the University of Warwick has been in operation for over two decades.
