Paris Preview: How the New Global Climate Agreement is Shaping Up

Wayne Law's Program for International Legal Studies presents guest speaker Elliot Diringer, executive vice president of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions in Washington, D.C. In December, world leaders will gather in Paris to negotiate an agreement to limit greenhouse gases that cause global warming. The United States, China and many other countries already have pledged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in advance of the conference. What are the chances of an agreement in Paris, what are the primary obstacles and what are the legal challenges facing the negotiators? Lunch will be provided. This event is presented in part through a grant from the International Law Students Association.
Dire Straits: A Legal and Policy Update on the Line 5 Straits of Mackinac Oil Pipeline

Assistant (Clinical) Professor Nick Schroeck will host this webinar to present an update on the Line 5 oil pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac. The aging pipeline has been the topic of much debate. There will be an update from the State of Michigan Attorney General's office on the Michigan Petroleum Pipeline Task Force, the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board, and related developments. The webinar will also feature a presentation from For Love of Water (FLOW) on continuing concerns from the environmental community.  This webinar is free but registration is required.
