Gear-Up/ High School Outreach Project
Western International High School

HLSA and other Wayne Law student organizations have partnered with GEAR UP to provide a mentorship program at Western International High School in Detroit.

The mission of GEAR UP is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

At this initial phase of the project, Wayne law students will available for two hours a week on Thursdays from 9 am to 11 am at the Western International High School's library. Since the project allows for different students every week, the time commitment for each mentor student can be as little as two hours a semester.

The mentors will be available for tutoring or general help with financial aid, scholarships, among others. At this point, there is a lot of freedom to pursue different avenues of mentoring, so if you have any ideas/ special interests, do not hesitate to let us know.
