Professor of Law Alan Schenk presented a paper titled "Value Added Taxation of Financial Services" on Feb. 18, 2009, in Washington, DC, at the American Tax Policy Institute Conference on Structuring a Federal VAT: Design and Coordination Issues. His presentation was discussed by Arthur Kerrigan of the European Commission and Timothy Edgar of the University of Western Ontario Law School.

Assistant Professor of Law Noah Hall serves as the Executive Director of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, which recently moved to an exciting new location in TechTown, the Wayne State University Research and Technology Park. Professor of Law Peter Henning has been appointed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners to a three-year term on the Criminal Law & Procedure Drafting Committee, which is responsible for drafting the questions on the Multistate Bar Examination. The Drafting Committee meets twice a year to review proposed questions and analyze questions given on prior exams.
Professor of Law Peter Henning published a monograph through the Bureau of National Affairs' Accounting Policy and Practice Series entitled Responding to Department of Justice Investigations, which discusses the issues that companies and individual officers may face when the Department of Justice conducts a federal investigation of potential criminal violations.
Professor of Law Ralph Slovenko served as editor of the American Series in Behavioral Science and Law, published by Charles C. Thomas.
Professor of Law Ralph Slovenko was honored by Robert I. Simon, M.D., who dedicated his book Accessing and Managing Risk: Guidelines for Clinically Based Risk Management to Professor Slovenko. Simon serves as clinical director of psychiatry and director of the Program in Psychiatry and Law at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is also chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
Professor of Law Alan Schenk just returned from a week in St. Kitts and Nevis. On behalf of the International Monetary Fund's legal department, he served as technical advisor and assisted both St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia draft value added tax laws for their countries.
