The Free Legal Aid Clinic is an independent nonprofit organization with a board of directors composed of Wayne Law students. It was established in 1965 after the Michigan Supreme Court adopted a court rule allowing law students to represent indigent people under the supervision of an attorney.
Students in this clinic handle family law matters under the supervision of lawyers from Lakeshore Legal Aid and elder law matters under the supervision of lawyers from the Elder Law and Advocacy Center.
Students earn academic credit for working at the clinic by taking the Law School's Public Interest Internship course.
