Aim Higher

Law Firm Campaign - Goal $1 million

“Our attorneys appreciate that the education we all received at Wayne Law has contributed greatly to our success. We are pleased that we have the opportunity to do our part to ensure that the Law School gets the resources to do the same for others.”

– I.W. Winsten, ’79
Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, LLP

Wayne Law began a series of campaigns at various local law firms in 2006 in an effort to reach out to our many remarkable Wayne Law alumni. With a goal of $1 million, Wayne Law has already received more than $480,000 from generous alumni and friends at: Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, LLP; Jaffe, Raitt Heuer and Weiss, PC; and Bodman, LLP.

Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, LLP
Approximately $200,000
The campaign started at Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, LLP with a kick-off luncheon at the firm’s downtown Detroit offices on Oct. 2, 2007. Firm Chairman Alan S. Schwartz, Wayne State University Board of Governors then-Chair Eugene Driker, ’61 (partner at Barris Sott Denn and Driker PLLC), Wayne Law then-Dean Frank H. Wu, and in-house Campaign Chair and Wayne Law Chair of the Board of Visitors I.W. (Bill) Winsten, ’79, spoke at the event about the greater Wayne First campaign and the needs of Wayne Law. Winsten, along with Honigman members Alan M. Hurvitz, ’81, Jonathan D. Block, ’98, and Douglas C. Salzenstein, ’01, secured pledges from 53 percent of Wayne Law alumni there, plus pledges from five additional attorneys who did not graduate from Wayne Law.

Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer and Weiss, PC
Approximately $125,000
The campaign reached Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer and Weiss, PC in 2007 thanks to Ira Jaffe and Harold D. Pope. Pope, a Duke University School of Law alumnus, acted as the Wayne Law champion, collecting pledge sheets and contributions from a diverse group of attorneys. Approximately $125,000 was raised through pledges by both alumni and nonalumni to support the Law School and the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights.

Bodman, LLP
Approximately $155,000
The campaign at Bodman, LLP kicked off at the Bodman offices at Ford Field in 2008. Bodman announced its total gift of $155,000 at the 12th annual Treasure of Detroit Gala held at the Westin Book Cadillac on March 28, 2009.
