Law School announces new clinic
Wayne State University Law School is pleased to announce an expanded transactional clinic that will be known as the Small Business Enterprises and Nonprofit Corporations Clinic.
The Clinic is housed in the Law School which is located at 471 W. Palmer Street, Detroit, on the main WSU campus. It will serve both for-profit and nonprofit clients who cannot afford to pay for legal services offered by attorneys in the private bar. The Clinic will assist businesses within the city of Detroit and in the Detroit metropolitan area.
Among the services the Clinic offers are: entity formation, contract review and preparation, review and drafting of commercial real estate documents, preparation of trademark and copyright applications, and preparation of tax exempt applications. The Clinic will represent clients only on business transactions and will not work on litigation matters.
The Clinic is currently accepting applications from potential clients and will begin representing clients this month. Any business whose application is accepted will have to pay for expenses such as filing fees, but the legal services will be offered at no cost to clients.
The Clinic will also serve as a four-credit class for WSU Law School students. Up to 12 students will work in the Clinic at any one time, under the supervision of Clinical Assistant Professor Dana A. Roach and Adjunct Professor Randolph Perry.
Individuals or organizations interested in the services of the Small Business Clinic can contact Professor Roach by phone at (313) 577-3961 for more information.
The Small Business Enterprises and Nonprofit Corporations Clinic is the Law School’s sixth live-client clinic and is an expansion of the Nonprofit Corporations and Urban Development Law Clinic. The Law School’s first clinic, the Free Legal Aid Clinic, began operations in 1965.
