2014 orientation schedule for first-year law students

Orientation is mandatory.

Bold events are for day, evening and combined day and evening students. Events in italic are for evening and combined students. Evening and combined students are welcome to attend any of the programs during the day, too.

  • 11 a.m. to noon – Welcome to Wayne Law! Check-in and lunch
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – "Faces" photos (Each student must have a photo taken during one of the designated timeslots this week.)
  • Noon to 2 p.m. – Introduction to Law School offices and programs
  • 2:30 to 5 p.m. – Legal Research and Writing class for day students
  • 4 to 5 p.m. – "Faces" photos (Each student must have a photo taken during one of the designated timeslots this week.)
  • 5 to 6 p.m. – New Student Convocation. Dean’s Welcome and remarks by the Hon. Nancy Edmunds, Wayne Law class of 1976
  • 6 to 8:30 p.m. – Legal Research and Writing class for evening students

  • 12 to 1:15 p.m. – Cultivating 1L Success. Presentations by Ashley Heidemann, Wayne Law class of 2011, and Assistant Professor Eric Zacks
  • 1:15 to 2:20 p.m. – Alumni roundtable discussions
  • 2:30 to 5 p.m. – Legal Research and Writing class for day students
  • 4 to 5 p.m. – "Faces" photos (Each student must have a photo taken during one of the designated timeslots this week.)

  • 5 to 6 p.m. – Taste of Detroit and Student Organization Fair. Barbecue dinner provided by SLOWs Detroit

  • 3:30 to 6 p.m. – Diamond Jack River Cruise. Dinner provided. Parking information will be provided prior to the event.
